After our latest trip to the pediatric opthalmologist today, we have a pirate on our hands! ARRRR!
If only Sean's eye patch were black and strapped around his head....I would put him in red striped pants and a bandana every day. These days they have adhesive eye patches for kids, like a big bandaid--more practical I suppose, but far less intimidating. Anyway, this is really nothing to worry about, the doctor said he was right on the border of needing patching because his right eye still looked a little weak, so we are going to try this out for a few months. SB only has to wear the patch about 2 hours a day, and since our nanny, Bridget, is married to an opthalmologist at MUSC, he is in good hands during the day. Today Bridget got him to keep it on for over an hour by telling him that Greta wanted to see it, and since "he'll do anything for Greta," that worked (for her part, Greta was extremely un-interested in seeing the patch when she got up from her nap). When it was just me asking him to wear it, the patch came right off. If anyone has any other ideas to help keep the patch on, i'm all ears. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Holy Baby
Without our prodding or teaching, a few months ago Sean started praying to our St. Francis statue on the porch. I really don't know where he learned this, but it is beyond adorable. St. Francis is also the keeper of Sean's "walking stick" which you can see behind his head. Sean likes to take this stick out on walks with us, but dutifully returns it to St. Frank upon our return. We've had the (same) stick for well over 6 months now.

Snow Day! (Charleston Style)
While our friends and family in Baltimore and Washington were pummled with 48 inches of snow last week, the Great Winter Storm of 2010 slammed Charleston, SC with 1.5 inches on Friday into Saturday. As the storm moved down from the mid-atlantic region, the talk around town all week was "they say it might snow Friday." When "they" say it might snow, that's news down here. Friday came and the air was abuzz. Schools closed early, supermarkets were running low, Cody and I both got out of work at 3:00 to beat the storm, winter storm warnings flashed across the TV. Then, we all waited. About 10:00 p.m. snow started falling-- what we might have considered a "light dusting" in South Bend or Detroit, produced blizzard-like hysteria and dozens of snowmen in Charleston. We woke up on Saturday to a little winter-wonderland. I am having some fun with the blizzard hysteria here, but when you consider the last time it snowed in Charleston was 10 years ago, and before that, you have to go back another 10 years to find snow, this was truly the storm of the decade! Here is what we were able to document:
Our cute house covered in snow. Tracks are from Cody and Sean playing in the snow early in the morning while I slept in :).
Not often do you see a Palmetto laden with snow.
Cody and I took Sean on a walk Saturday morning so he could see the snow ("Doh! Doh!"). Great parents that we are, we have yet to buy Sean a pair of mittens (why would you need them in Charleston? it was 60 degrees last week!). So, our solution is hand socks. Unfortunately, this is now the third or fourth time we've used that solution (he has even learned how to grasp his Bop without thumbs) so maybe we should look into some real mittens.
Sean's very own snowball. He carried it the entire walk, which did not bode well for the hand socks, which were soaked and cold by the time we headed home.
He LOVED finding the snowmen in yards in the neighborhood. Everytime we passed one Sean would ask for more. We tried to explain that like dogs and trucks, snowmen are novelties you have to keep your eye out for and you can't just demand more.
I'm glad we survived the Great White of 2010. Our pantry shelves were getting bare and I heard some people in South Carolina lost power. We were nervous for a while there, but we dug ourselves out and we made it!
Tiles and Tribulations
These pictures are not posed (Denise)! I came upon Sean doing this in the family room yesterday. Cody and I have been playing a game of scrabble all weekend, so I guess Sean has picked up a few things from watching.

Boo Boos
Sean has been learning about "boo boos" lately and likes to point them out on himself and other people (and Curious George). He has had a bad runny nose and cough the last few days and we've been wiping his nose raw. This morning when I went to get him he was so warm and cuddly and he looked up at me, pointed to his nose and said, "boo boo." It was so sad.

Big Boy Room!
We are in full swing getting ready for Brother to arrive in two short months! I have been seriously nesting ("Cody, you go ahead and go to the CofC basketball game, I think I'd rather stay here and organize our closets"). We were debating whether to move Sean into a Big Boy room before or after Brother's arrival, but at our last check up the pediatrician recommended doing it sooner than later due to Sean's off-the-charts height--he is worried Sean will be able to climb out of his crib soon, and thinks it would be safer to have him in a bed. So....
Last weekend GG and Grandpa Jamie were here, and Grandpa and Dad helped Sean convert the guest room to "the boys' room" (that sounds so sweet!). I wish we had "before" pictures, but...
Here is the (almost) finished product! Can you guess the theme? We have a few more things to hang on the walls (i.e., the penants on the left bed and an N.D. poster), but I think it looks pretty good so far.
Here is Sean having his first 'alone' time in his new room. I really only left for a few minutes to make him feel comfortable by himself. He loved it. Although, we tried to move his entire "room time" into his new room today (usually it is in his crib) and he freaked out a little. So, we have a little way to go.
So excited! Sean is still sleeping in his nursery until we get bedrails, but we anticipate making the permanent move pretty soon so he's comfortable when Brother comes.
By the way, we have really noticed Sean's renewed interest in his old books now that he can actually see the pages. He has spent a lot of time with his old friend Brown Bear lately, and even pointed out that the Teacher at the end has glasses too :).

Little Man
Glasses and hair (particularly a side part) are making Sean look more and more like his Dad these days.
Reading with Dad
A few quick pics of a brave dad with a baby in glasses (and nothing else) before bedtime tonight.
In this pic Sean is actually pointing to his changing table asking for his glasses so he can read the book with Dad. How dare we expect him to read without his reading glasses? (Look how long he is in this picture!)
Much better.
This is a story about a Hippo and a Tortoise who become friends. Sean barked like a dog through the whole book. He also woke up this morning barking like a dog and answered my questions in "bark" all morning, so I guess it was just a dog day.
Wow...
Maybe its just the maternal glow of pregnancy, but here's the shocking conversation I had with the 16 year old cashier at the grocery store last night:
Him: Is your last name Lawson?
Me: No.
Him: Wow, you look just like my brother's friend. Like, you could be her mom.
About a minute into bagging my groceries he looked up and said, "I mean, you could probably be my brother's friend's sister." That's better.
