Expanding Vocabulary

The other morning a sleepy and cuddly Sean laid with us and practiced his entire vocabulary:

Sean: Dad?
Cody: Yes?
Sean: Dad?
Cody: Yes?
Sean: Dad?
Cody: Yes?

Sean: Hat. Hat. Hat. Hat.

Sean: Baby. Baby. Baby. Baby.

Sean says Dad (more like "Dadt!!!") about 10,000 times a day, and he recently picked up the sign for it too, which is super cute. Still not even a hint of a "mom", "mama", "ma" ...nothing.

Tommy didn't say mama for a really long time (and when he finally started it was only when he was sad), he said both for awhile, and now he doesn't say dad. He calls Joe (and every other caretaker, for that matter) "ma" - I told Joe it's because mom is the favorite....Hang in there!

Erin! He's growing up so fast! I loved the blog shoutout in the ND Magazine this season :)

PS... I've heard that "d" sounds are easier than "m" sounds at first, which is why many babies start out with "dad" ;) I hope you guys get a video of Sean's entire vocab up here soon!

Take care and much love to you three!

I love it when he says "hat" the best! =) He's so smart! I'm proud of my little nephew!

I think babies' ability to sound out 'ds' and thus Dad over the Mama thing is linked to Abba, Father. It's my theory anyway:).
