Soccer Firsts!

We entered a new phase of life this Saturday at 9:00 a.m.  Sean's first soccer game, which marks the beginning of our life as modern suburban-ites--chasing soccer games, birthday parties and other commitments belonging not to us, but our kids.  This weekend we had soccer at 9, a birthday party at 10, then Cody and I gave a talk at the Pre-Cana class at our Church at lunch.  All 5 of us went to all of it, and by the time we got home we were exhausted!  Cody and I noted that the day felt completely busy, hurried and chaotic to us, but that kind of schedule is probably going to be more of the rule than the exception as we have more kids and they keep getting older!  So, we embark on a new phase of life, and Sean embarks on a new adventure--SOCCER!

Sean is SO excited to play soccer--and I am so excited for him!  I hope he learns to love the game, as I did.  So far, so good.  His first practice was Thursday evening, and Sean was so excited to start soccer he asked to try on his shin guards (and socks, and shirt, and shorts) before his nap.  He liked them so much he asked to take his nap in them, and I let him.  Needless to say, there wasn't much sleeping during his nap because he was so excited.

"Napping" with his shinguards on before his first practice.

A picture at his first soccer practice.  I love this.  The team is 5 boys.  They play 3 v 3.  Most of the boys are 4 years old (even though it is a "U-6" league) and don't comprehend "soccer" at all.

Hard at work.

I love this picture.  It exemplifies Sean's uniqueness.

Before the big game on Saturday we also had team pictures.  Adorable.

Our 5-person team.  They are all just babies trying to play soccer!

Cody is not the team coach, but the ever-helpful Cody managed the boys on the bench while our real coach was on the field.  I love this picture.

Sean's team decided on a team name at the first practice.  Sean suggested the "Lightning McQueens" but the team decided on the Tigers.  Cody and I wore matching shirts (see above) to the first game.  Again, this is U-6.  We are those parents.  We just get excited for our kids.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, the Tigers lost their first game about 12-2.  I say "about" because we're not really sure.  The boys had no concept of losing.  It was awesome.

So cute! I love it that they have no concept of losing. They'll pick up on that soon enough. I hope Sean loves soccer as much as you do too! But I'd rather have him love tennis...

Cody, you should be a model. Not kidding (and you know this because I recruited you first). In all of these blog pictures you are the man, the dad man.
Erin, you are such an entertaining and talented writer. I just caught up on the last 6 months of Groeber life and you made it most enjoyable.
It was great talking with you all today. We miss you and are glad to hear all is now well.
